A french grey dresser with a wood top

February 2, 2014 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door Leave a Comment

I was little weary of how this one was going to turn out halfway through the process. After stripping, sanding, staining and using 2 coats of poly on the top, it just wasn’t looking as good as when it was first done. It looked a bit dried out, but I tried using Country Chic Paint’s Antiquing Wax over top it, and it made it look so much richer. I prefer the look of a waxed piece, but I know poly is a really durable finish, so I think this is going to be my new routine for stained tops!

The dresser is painted with 2 coats of paint in a deep grey with blue undertones call Hurricane by Country Chic Paint. It’s definitely not a flat one dimensional color and I love that. The edges and details are lightly distressed, and I added new white rose pulls to contrast against the dark colors and add a more modern touch to the french country style the piece already has going for.

That is beautiful! I love the combo of the wood and blue vs it being all just blue. Smart move!

Love this piece. I would never think to use the wax over the poly. I like the look of a waxed piece too but the poly is so durable. Great idea to get the best of both!
