Bronze Nightstand

January 21, 2013 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door Leave a Comment

I picked up this nightstand from goodwill over the weekend. I find that goodwill is the place to find side tables and nightstands. This one was is good condition, but the top was peeling, and the price reflected that. It was nothing a little sanding couldn’t fix!

I used 80 grit sand paper to rough up the finish on the piece. I had to use a lower grit to make sure to sand off part of the smooth finish so the paint had something to stick to. For the top I whipped out our orbital sander. I used 80 grit to get all of the finish off, and 150 grit to smooth it out.

After picking up the nightstand, I went to Sherwin Williams to get some paint. I have seen the color Urbane Bronze on a couple pieces lately and love the grey-brown color. I ended up going slightly lighter with the color I chose, it is called Porpoise (barely lighter than Urbane Bronze), but I still call this my bronze nightstand. After wiping off all of the dust, I gave it two coats of paint. A couple spots required a third coat, but this was a really fast project that only took a couple hours. Once the paint dried, I took it inside to sit and cure for a while, then gave it a coat of Minwax Paste Wax. I left the hardware alone and love the way the gold looks with the paint color.

Love the two nightstands I've just looked at. I've been finding and painting nightstands. You are right, way easier than painting wooden chairs too. I am following and going back to read more. I've also added your blog to my blogroll.

Yes! Chairs can be difficult. I prefer nightstands and dressers. Those are my favorite. Thanks for following along!

Love that color! And I agree with the gold of the pulls, looks great with that pewter-y kind of gray;)

I LOVE that color! I've pinned it for future color reference. It looks almost like a bluish gray, but photos make colors look so different at times. Thanks for sharing this at Throwback Thursdays.
