White Campaign Chest/Armoire

January 8, 2013 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door 11 Comments

I finally got around to painting this amazing Dixie Campaigner Chest. I picked it up off of craigslist with a friend a while back, and it has been waiting for a makeover.

Here is what it looked like before in its wood state.

I did not sand the piece because it was in great condition. I primed, then painted multiple coats of white paint over it. I chose to go neutral just because it is a large statement piece, and I thought it would look great in a crisp white. It took many many coats to cover everything, but I love the way it turned out and am glad I chose to use white.

That looks gorgeous! I especially like the contrast when you open the upper doors to see the natural wood. Job well done.

Thanks! I love the contrast of the dark wood too. My favorite photo of them all, since it has the best lighting

Really great transformation. The piece was really dark and sort of imposing before with all that dark wood. The white really cleans it up and gives the feel like you could incorporate it into any home design.

HI! I saw you over at Liz Marie and just love this! Well done! I adore a campaign chest, but I hardly ever come across them. xo Kristin @ bliss-athome.com

Thanks! I love the way this one turned out! I feel like I rarely see campaign furniture… but I guess I come across is quite often considering how many pieces I have. It's good stuff!

Thank you! I am glad I went with the white to freshen it up… it was very dark to begin with. Thanks for stopping by!

It looks the bail on the right was missing when you found this? My cabinet is smaller and is missing the right bail. If yours was missing…where did you find a replacement bail? I've looked everywhere.

Looks great!!! I have one of these same chests and I need one replacement handle for one of the top cabinet doors. It looks like you had a broken one and replaced/fixed it for the final product… how/where did you find this replacement piece? Thx!

    Hello,
I e just acquired this exact piece for free and added it to my collection of MCM obsessions. Do you happen to know the official name/production year of this piece? Yours is the first match I’ve found online. Thanks!
