Nautical Campaign Desk

October 29, 2012 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door Leave a Comment

After seeing tons of campaign dresser makeovers I knew I had to get my hands on one. I ended up finding a campaign dresser on craigslist and the person also had the matching desk. The brass corners had been painted over and the desk needed a new paint job (it looks fine in the picture, but it was not).

Taking off the brass corners was a pain, but once they were off, I stripped them. I tried to use Brasso to clean off the drawer pulls and corners, but it did take off all of the dirt and oxidation that happened overtime. I found that Bar Keeper’s Friend worked to get them cleaned up. There are still some spots that don’t look as gold and shiny, but it’s from the 60’s. I can’t expect perfection.
I used an off white color on the outside of the desk, and a navy on the drawers. I waxed the whole piece, then put the hardware back on. I think the white, navy and gold give the desk a nautical look. It would look cute in a kids bedroom!

It also came with glass for the top. It’s fun to put pictures or designs under the glass.

You did a fab job! Love it and love the color combo! I have yet to find the Campaign desk, but I have found others. I have the perfect matching end tables and book case ! I painted the end table white and left drawer fronts wood. You can see it under "Gallery" .

This is great! I'm working on one that looks almost exact. I'm thinking of red and wood. As for the bar keepers stuff where can I find that? I'd like to clean up the hardware.

Thanks! I will definitely keep a lookout for yours once it is finished. Bar Keeper's Friend can be found in the cleaning supply section of your grocery store. Also you can check a hardware store, but I would go with the grocery store first.
    Hope this helps. Good luck!
