Campaigning for Furniture

January 2, 2013 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door 7 Comments

Now that I have had a nice break during the last two weeks I am ready to get back into project mode!
Over the past month or so I have been finding campaign pieces all over the place. I found a Dixie Campaigner dresser/armoire back in November, and after that I found a smaller campaign style chest. It has the look of a campaign piece, but the sides of the drawers are press board and the hardware is not the true campaign style. This one needs a couple coats of paint to give it a new look and cover up the not-so-quality wood.

Next up I got a campaign bedroom set. A long 6 drawer dresser with a matching nightstand and mirror. It needs to be repainted, but there are also some bigger fixes that need to take place before I can get it finished.
I am leaving the frame of the dresser white, like this campaign dresser since it has a white laminate top. On the drawers I am going to do a gradient ombre look. The bottom drawers will be painted black, the middle drawers will be a dark grey, and the top drawers will be a lighter grey. Here is an example I whipped up using SW color changer.
I have been loving campaign pieces that are left in their natural wood state (these are older and harder to find, not the ones that are laminate and come painted like the pink and white set). Here is one I have drooled over, and I especially loved the striped walls behind it.

I was crazy happy when I found these on craigslist not too far from where I live. Two matching Lane campaign dressers. Both are in great condition for their age. They are solid, unpainted and have gorgeous wood. I am not sure I can’t paint these (and will not!) since they are amazing just they way they are, but I know they would look great with a pop of color!

I decided to keep one, and sell the other. Click here to see the one I kept, in its new home styled with some fun/random things from around our house (most of them are mine). I am really loving the wood campaign dresser, and am so excited I get to keep one!
This last piece I do not have yet, but I want it… badly! It looks like it matches the two dresser I just got. It has legs, just like they do as well as the same hardware and brass corner pieces. It does not look to be in the best condition, so I would paint it if I were to get it. It has been listed for a while, but the the posting was recently updated with a better picture of the piece. The others were so dark you could barely see the piece. The way it’s going thought, I does not seem like I will end up with this piece… a girl can dream 😉
*******Update: I ended up getting this piece! And it does match the pair of dressers I got. Same brand, same everything. I got to take some ferry rides to scoop this one up*******
Really, half the furniture I have right now is campaign furniture. I just can’t pass it up whenever I come across it. It’s good stuff! Stay tuned for projects coming in the next week or so!

Beautiful pieces. I found a chest made by Baker. I refinished the drawer fronts to a dark walnut and painted the rest a beautiful shade of teal. That way I got the best of both worlds! You can see it under my "gallery" heading. BTW, I love your other campaign pieces. You scored
    yourself some finds girl!!

I love campaign furniture. (It's so hard to find them around here.) It seems as though you hit the jackpot, though. You found such beautiful pieces!

Hi my name is Sandra and I just wanted to drop you a quick note here instead of calling you. I discovered your Campaigning for Furniture page and noticed you could have a lot more traffic. I have found that the key to running a successful website is making sure the visitors you are getting are interested in your subject matter. There is a company that you can get targeted traffic from and they let you try their service for free for 7 days. I managed to get over 300 targeted visitors to day to my site. Hi! I have this same Lane Altvista Campaign dresser, and I was wondering how much you sold it for? Mine isn’t in as great of shape as yours, but I don’t even know where to start. Would love some insight!
