Oiled vs. Waxed Milk Paint: Peacock Nightstand

March 10, 2013 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door Leave a Comment

I painted an old stereo cabinet that could also be used as a nightstand last week. The color was darker when I painted it, but lightened slightly as it dried. I also sanded it to get any clumps out of the paint and give the piece a smooth finish. After this the color looked way different than before the sanding. It was now much lighter and has a more cottage/waeathered feel. Here is what it looked like after being waxed with SC Johnson Paste Wax. Click here to see the original post and more pictures.

After using orange oil on a waterfall hutch I just did, I thought I would use it on this nightstand to bring it back to that deeper, darker green blue it was supposed to be. I really like the way it looks after being oiled. Here is what it looks like now!

Do you like the look of waxed or oiled milk paint? I like oiled most of the time, but waxed milk paint works on certain pieces.
