An antique secretary desk in a deep teal

December 15, 2013 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door 18 Comments

I found this lovely secretary at goodwill and fell in love with it because of the legs. It definitely had a lot of wear with it’s terrible stain job and flakey, chipping finish.

I chose to paint it a darker shade, and picked a deep teal blue color that was very greyed out. I sanded the desk to start with, wiped it down and then painted two coats of the teal color on the outside and two coats of a lighter grey on the inside. I did a bit of distressing to give it a worn look, and then sealed it with wax.

What a lucky Goodwill find! And I love the deep, dark, moody shade of teal!

It's some Behr paint color that I custom mixed with some grey to tone it down a bit.

I don't have any of the inside, sorry! There was nothing special about it, just one shelf.

Have you checked really good for secret compartments as these old secretary desks often had them built in and really well concealed to store valuables and keep them safe?
