A black and white tribal nightstand

I am aware this pieces is a bit out there and not for everyone. Over the past few months I have been trying not to disregard an idea because it may not be something others will like or it won’t sell. If I have an idea, I do my best to try it out, even if it may be a miss. 3 months ago I painted this piece white and added the tribal design to the drawers. I used a Sharpie paint pen I ordered from Amazon. I bought the bold one, which was good for some parts of the design, but it was hard for the parts that I didn’t want as thick. I just made up the design from tribal prints I had seen and sketched out an idea beforehand. I started with the bold black row of plus sign things (don’t know what to call those), and just went from there. I did drawer it out with a pencil and then go over with the paint pen. The whole thing ended up getting glazed withsome grey glaze I mixed up due to the white paint becoming a bit discolored, and that did the trick.
I love the tribal design on the drawers, but I’m not entirely convinced this was the right piece to do it on and that the overall look it a home run… but I am glad I gave it a try!

This looks great, it's amazing you were able to keep all of the lines so crisp. It reminds me of a mudcloth design.

This is great! I love the Sharpie Paint Pens! I have found them at Joanns – in all the sizes – great to be able to go get them when I need them instead of having to order them. My favs have been the gold and silver – but recently I wanted a black on – need to get one next time I'm out. Love what you did here!

I'm totally on board with your thinking. I like to try different styles and techniques. I know it's not for everyone (sometimes I wouldn't even use it!). But that's what makes different pieces so unique! Great job on the tribal!

I love it. It works with Scandinavian decor and any room that has a neutral or solid background. It would be stunning with natural textures of wood and linen and a fiber rug and plants. Nicely done indeed, and clever way to elevate the humble Sharpie. 😀

Love love love! I recently used a Sharpie paint pen to create a geometric pattern on one of our walls. I also realized it's 'not for everyone', but I quite like it 🙂 I'm going to pin this project for sure. Erin @ diypassion

You did a terrific job. When I looked at the first photo, I wondered what stencil and paint you used. Then I read that you created the design and used a Sharpie. That knocked me over. It's wonderful. Ann Marie @ Iris Abbey
