A Navy Nightstand with Papered Doors

April 29, 2014 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door Leave a Comment

Here’s how this one went down. This cute little nightstand came from goodwill and was a bit boring to begin with. I first began by removing hardware and taking off the doors so I could sand the whole piece down. Before painting I used some Bar Keeper’s Friend to shine up the brass detail around each of the legs and then taped them off (and the hinges too) to keep them free of paint. I chose to paint it in General Finishes Coastal Blue which is the perfect rich navy. It only took 2 coats to get enough coverage and then I let it cure overnight. Everything got sealed with wax, but on the top I opted for GF high performance poly in satin for a more durable finish on the high traffic area.

I added the doors back on and chose this printed paper with green leaves and blue dots to give the piece some interest. I also had another option of some orange-coral paper as well. I let the buyer choose to leave the doors without paper or to choose one of the two option. They chose the green and blue paper since it worked with the decor they had in the room.
