A bayside dresser with black and white knobs

August 18, 2013 By Reeves @ The Weathered Door Leave a Comment

It’s no secret that blue is by favorite my color to paint with. I try not to do the exact same look over and over, so each time I get a new piece I want to try a new color. My neighbor has a gorgeous blue-teal colored dresser that I have admired the color of, so I went and picked a few paint chips that I thought matched, and that I liked, then compared them to one of the drawers. The winner, Bayside by Behr which had been my first choice all along.

I cleaned, sanded, filled holes, sanded, applied one coat of Zinsser Shellac (to block out any smells and bleed through), sanded, then painted on 2 coats of the blue which has some grey and teal tones. The last step was to seal it up with clear wax. The color is really great by itself, so I went more simple with the pulls and did some white and black ones like I always seem to choose 🙂 It reminds me of the smokey blue dresser.

Your choice for treatment is so simple…which makes it fresh. Not layers of this or multiple tricks to distress…just clean and simple which equals stunning. I'm so happy when there is a new article in my blog reader from you. Thank you for so freely sharing.

Distressing has its place, but I do tend to lean towards cleanly painted pieces with no distressing. Glad you like furniture that way too!

I love these knobs! They are crisp white so they pop, but they also have the fun black detail. I seem to go back to these ones and I am sure I will be using them again 🙂

My hubby and I spent ALL weekend looking for a piece this color. Maybe we should try to pick up an old piece and finish ourselves?? SCARY! Can you share what color and brand of paint you used? Brushed or rolled or sprayed?

    Thanks so much!
    Pam 🙂

Kelcey – the wall color is called Wheat Bread by Valspar. We first used it a couple years ago and whenever we need more we just take the can and get it matched. Because of that I don't know if that is still one of their colors, but if you ever need it I can send you a picture of the color label on the can.

The color is Bayside by Behr. I always hand paint all the pieces I do. I also use flat finish paints which really minimize the brush strokes and are an easier finish to work with. Once I have all the coats of paint on I seal it with clear wax (I like Maison Blanche La Craie). Hope this helps! It is definitely worth it to do a project yourself, you save a lot of money. And if you are looking for fun hardware for the drawers check out Hobby Lobby – they have a great selection and every other week all of the knobs are half off!

I love it! I'm looking around my house to paint something blue! I know Behr makes the color "wheat bread" did you have it color matched to valspar or do you think it is a discontinued color?

Now that you say that I remember that is what we did. I had a paint chip of Wheat Bread by Behr and we were at Lowes so we had them color match it.
